IELTS Reading Exam

The IELTS Academic Reading test assesses your ability to understand written English across a range of texts.

 

You’ll answer 40 questions in 60 minutes, testing skills such as reading for main ideas, detail, inference, and understanding writers’ opinions and attitudes.

IELTS Academic Reading

  • Duration: 60 minutes

  • Total questions: 40

  • Consists of three long passages taken from books, journals, magazines, or newspapers.

  • Texts are academic in style, suitable for university-level study.

  • Tests a range of reading skills: understanding main ideas, recognising detail, identifying opinions, and following argument structure.

  • No extra time is given for transferring answers — all must be written directly on the answer sheet.
